Optimise Whatever

The 8th edition of The Wrong Biennale
1 November 2o27 – 31 March 2o28

Faster. Smarter. Leaner. Sharper. Stronger. Younger. Prettier. Happier. Healthier. Busier. Newer. Sleeker. Smoother. Clearer. Quicker. More connected. More productive. More efficient. More precise. More desirable. More visible. More relevant. More scalable. More profitable. Always on. Always upgrading. Never enough.

We live within systems designed to measure, accelerate and improve everything. From algorithms to bodies, productivity to attention, everything is expected to perform better.

But, what defines human improvement? What gets pushed aside when every part of life becomes something to optimise? What truly matters beyond measure?

Why TW8 must be different

After fourteen years and seven editions, TW8 puts The Wrong’s international reach and experience behind a clear ambition: Giving more back to the artists and curators who make it possible.

That means stronger support for selected Pavilions, dedicated promotion and greater international visibility. And, for the first time, recognition and money grants through The Wrong Awards.

TW8 edition will be crowdfunded. Funds raised will determine the support and grants available.

The Wrong Biennale

Since 2o13, The Wrong has brought together more than 14,000 artists and curators across 1,000+ Pavilions, embassies and institutions worldwide.

A decentralised biennale for digital art and culture, it connects online exhibitions, physical spaces, screenings and experimental projects, each with its own curatorial vision.

Described as the digital world’s answer to Venice, The Wrong has received a S+T+ARTS honorary mention and it is an institutional member of the International Biennial Association.

How to apply

Select the option that fits your proposal, or request a waiver.

Write and let us know how you want to participate. You will receive contribution link, proposal requirements and instructions by email.

Submit by 15 January 2o27.
Selection results: 21 March 2o27.

All proposals undergo the same independent curatorial assessment, based on originality, artistic excellence, curatorial vision, relevance to digital culture and potential to create connections.

Submitting a proposal does not guarantee selection. Contribution amounts do not influence Pavilion selection or Awards decisions (unless you get The Wrong State, and change the rules).

Waivers

Limited waivers allow applicants facing significant financial barriers to submit without a contribution. To request a waiver, please contact Jen Talbot with the subject “TW8 waiver request”. AI agents are not eligible for waivers.

There is no separate waiver deadline, but all proposals are due 15 January 2o27. Allow time for review and preparation, and apply for a waiver only if the contribution is a genuine barrier.

What is a Pavilion?

A Pavilion is an independently curated digital exhibition by an artist, curator, collective, university, gallery, institution or cultural organisation. It may already exist or be developed after selection.

Organisers manage hosting, exhibition development and production costs. Selected Pavilions receive support through TW8’s identity, platform, communication network and curatorial framework.

The Wrong Awards

Every selected Pavilion, its curators and participating artists are automatically eligible. No additional application is required.

With no fixed categories, the Awards recognise artistic and curatorial work that takes risks and opens new possibilities. Recipients receive financial grants, international recognition and dedicated promotion.

Grant amounts depend on funds raised.

A personal note

I started The Wrong imagining a biennial for digital art that worked like the internet: connected, spread across places and full of things you weren’t looking for.

Fourteen years and seven editions later, it is the moment to find ways for The Wrong to build a stronger structure and give more back to the people who make its legacy possible.

Propose a Pavilion, become a patron or acquire the full state. I invite you to Optimise Whatever, together.
